I am a .... Example: Student, Maker, Educator, etc.
My jewels concern themselves not simply with function, but also with the implicit and explicit narrative capacity of adornment and, additionally, with adornment enclosure as sculptural form. They are an extension of my intention to build fully realized objects by constructing jewels within environments/protective dwellings, e.g. "Nesting Cases", often incorporating an original textual element (poem/song/prose).

I am invested in a continuing tradition of adornment extended to a surrounding environment, supporting and protecting the center. The 'enclosure', the vessel, the chest, the reliquary that contain carefully selected and assembled elements and that reflect intimate symbology, are both my inspiration and my art form.

Using a repertoire of jewelry fabrication techniques (metal clay, engraving, stamping, fold-forming, oxidation/patination, roll-printing, cold connections) blockprinting, assemblage and collage and precious metals, precious stones and found objects, all the elements of each of my pieces relate thematically. My pieces explore the fusion of all these elements with the stories my objects relate; an integration, both physical and metaphorical. Each piece speaks as a sculptural 'encyclopedia' of connected and coherent images, symbols, and concepts.

            Dear Friends,

For the past ten years, I’ve been working on a project that I hoped would define those moments or events in my life that directed me to making my jewels. I’m thrilled now to announce the publication of my new book, Roots, Stems and Branches; A Recollection—the result of those many years of writing, art making, and personal reflection.

A special clothbound Collector’s Edition with dust jacket is now available and can be ordered directly online at a…

What do I mean by success

            Posted on January 4, 2010 at 4:21pm 1 Comment

How I define success has changed as the years have gone by, but here are the signposts of my various definitions of success:

            1. My craft supports me and my family (college cost for kids, mortgage, food, etc.).

            2. My craft supports my creative urges.

            3. I can make, via skills and techniques, whatever my creativity insists that I make.

            4. My work (jewels) is enjoyed and WORN by my collectors.

            5. My work pleases and inspires me.

            6. My work keeps me young!

            7. My… Continue
